In 2007 five fellow artists and myself embarked on a new journey expanding the visual arts to our beloved downtown neighborhood.  GALLERY 2611 opened it's doors on April 1 and has been very welcomed by passersby and people who knew us from the art center.  Our goal is to raise the bar of the quality of art presented to the community and give outside artists an opportunity to showcase their work in a space that is inviting and professional.  Featured artists include Belvia Sharpe from bsharpaccessories whose fused art glass sparkles in the front window drawing people in.

Dianne de Laet has a special space for her poetry writing and her journey through the "Trail of Tears" telling the story of the Native American Indian.  She collects natural gifts from the earth and assembles them in ways that seem like magic and tell stories of their own.  She has graciously brought her harp to the gallery and blesses us and customers with her lovely voice and music.
Please visit www.aretepoetics.com for more info about her scholarship fund.

Gary Graham has been painting in oils for over 14 years and has finally found a place to hone his craft in a supportive and creative environment.  He spends as much time as he can at the gallery between his regular working hours and has embraced the new adventure of jurying, showing and selling other artist's work as well as his own.

Joyce Faulknor continues to work on her craft after having published a book on painting crystal and glass, producing a dvd on the process, doing a series of Harley Davidson paintings and continues to be fascinated with the joy painting gives her.  Being in a well lit and warm new space has inspired her to come up with yet new ways to present her work and she delights in interviewing new artists and showing off their work as well to the public.

Guy Magallanes and Joyce have collaborated on producing a tv show for local television showing their vastly different styles of painting.  They share a joy and sense of humor that makes learning fun as well as entertaining.

Jackye Ostrander is a fairly new painter and is inspired by the camraderie, lack of egos and quality of work she is surrounded by.  She is sad that she is not able to be at the gallery more being in the midst of building a new home in Maine.  But every chance she gets she is in her seat painting away and inhaling any bit of information the other artists share with her.  She adds a sparkle to the gallery with her joyous laugh, enchanting look on life and friendship with the others.

I consider myself lucky to be part of this group and am excited about bringing visual arts to the forefront in downtown Redwood City.  The growth that is happening in the town coincides with the development of these artists and their goals and we all look forward to years to come in our new home away from home.

GALLERY 2611 is also available for outside events.  Go to "GALLERY RENTAL" for more information.

Jen Rayne's work is big and bold!  She and her fellow artist, Ron Meadows collaborated on a showing at the gallery and have sparked a lot of interest in their technique.  Jen loves to depict animals while Ron's focus is on surrealist nudes and flowers.  He also creates astonishing bronze vases that are on display.
